Abington YMCA Wellness Programs

The YMCA health and wellness programs are developmentally appropriate and help people at any stage of life build positive health habits. Participation in YMCA programs offers youth and adults opportunities for friendship and community, a sense of well-being, increased self-confidence and improved mental abilities.
YMCA programs and services cut across diverse populations with diverse needs and attempt to take into account the total-health of each person. The YMCA provides a variety of health and wellness programs including exercise and water fitness classes for people and families of all ages, health and wellness seminars, educational classes, personalized training programs, non-competitive youth and adult sports leagues and social opportunities for seniors and families.

Group Exercise
All Classes are one hour unless otherwise indicated.

ABS+
Designed to firm and strengthen abdominals, lower back, inner thighs, outer thighs and the gluteus maximus. Included is a 20 minute cardio session.
AM ABS
Wake up those abs! This half hour class is a great finish to your early morning workout, 20 minutes of abdominal exercises followed by stretching.
Body Toning
A tone and trim workout with high repetitive movements, utilizing hand weights and focusing on the entire body.
Boot Camp
Join dynamic instructor Barry Walton for this high intensity workout combining endurance and strength techniques to build a faster, stronger and more fit you.
Hatha Yoga
Popular form of Yoga that uses the practice of postures, proper breathing and concentration techniques that teach students to focus on spirit, mind and body.
Kickboxing
A total body workout designed to focus on core strengthening, cardiovascular conditioning and overall body coordination. This high-energy class will burn calories, shape and tone.
L.I.F.E (Low Impact Fitness Experience)
Combination of cardio, strength, endurance, balance and flexibility. Recommended for beginners and older adults.
Pilates
This exercise format focuses on core abdominal strength, body alignment, concentration, and yoga-like stretching. Pilates creates length in the muscles while building core strength and increasing flexibility.
Power Hour (75 minutes)
Total body muscular workout that starts with a high intensity step class and is followed by 50 minutes of major muscle group workout. Our new adjustable barbells, dumbbells and stability balls will assist in making sure every muscle is worked.
Running for Beginners
Learn how to get the most out of your running experience even if you have never run before! You will learn how to warm up, build endurance and cool down with experienced instructors. Class goal is to enter and run a 5k (3.1 miles). This class is offered in the fall and spring, rain or shine.
Senior Strength with Free Weights
After 60, older adults may lose up to seven pounds of muscle per year. this class is designed to increase overall strength and stability to help combat losses in bone, muscle and balance. Participants work together in small groups, with a variety of exercises tailored to fit individual abilities. For ages 55 and older
Spinning
Spinning is a cardio workout done on specially designed stationary bikes simulating a road bike ride. Spinning is a fun way to exercise to music.
Small Group Personal Training
Looking for a change in your exercise program? Learn how to use free weights in the Olympic Weight Room. Ronna Kassel will teach you how to properly incorporate free weight exercises into your routine. Open to anyone over 16. Limit of 10 participants.
Stretch Class
Stretching is important after a tough workout. During this class you will be treated to a coold down with simple stretches and relaxing music.
Teen/Pre-teen Fitness
Teen Weight Lifting (grades 9-12)
Learn the fundamentals of weight training jincluding proper technique, spotting and the correct exercises using free weights. Space is limited.
Fit Fundamentals
Childhood obesity and physical inactivity is a national issue. This basic circuit training class, using balls, bands, hoops, jump ropes and dumbbells is designed to get your pre-teen moving and feeling fit and better about themselves. Ages 8-14.
Teen Weight Lifting
Learn the fundamentals of weight training including proper technique, spotting and correct exercises using free weights. Ages 13-18.
Youth Boot Camp (ages 8 to 14)
A challenging circuit workout for all fitness levels. Work to achieve your fitness goals with boot camp-type circuit training, focusing on strength, stamina and agility. This is a fun, fast-paced fitness experience for all fitness levels.
Youth Pilates (ages 8 to 14)
This exercise format, especially adapted for the younger exerciser, focuises on core abdominal strength, body alignment, concentration, and hyoga-like stretching. Pilates creates length in the muscles while bilding core strength and increasing flexibility.

Nutrition Counseling
Full Member -- $50 per 1 hour session
Healthy eating is important to overall wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention. Learn to eat well in pursuit of a healthier lifestyle. Maria Morsi, MS,RD,LDN will provide this one-on-one expert nutrition assessment and nutrition counseling.

Blood Pressure Screening
Screenings are offered in the lobby the 2nd Tuesday and Saturday of each month by a medical professional. Wellness Coaches can take blood pressures at any time in the FitnessCenter.
Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage involves the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, stress and to promote health and wellness. A variety of treatments are now available, prices vary by service.
