Day Camp Overview:

The Columbia North YMCA summer camp will offer a 10-week program that will ensure the best camp experience tailored to the interest of each camper. YMCA day camp is about fun field trips, cool counselors and instilling our character values. The daily activities will offer variety and excitement while building friendships and lasting memories. Swimming, computers, creative arts, science, sports, and an end of the year Luau are all part of this well-rounded program. Special themes and guest performers vary the routine and keep the campers engaged.

Registration Procedures
Registration begins Monday, February 4th, 2008
Camp Registrations can be accepted at the Membership Desk Monday-Thursday 6:30 am-8:30 pm Friday 6:30 AM - 7:30 PM Saturday 8:00 AM -4:00 PM and Sunday 10:00 AM -2:00 PM. Registration applications will only be accepted with a $36 Registration Fee and have a current YMCA membership; otherwise a membership must be purchased a the following rates:
Day camp activities will take place at the Columbia
Kinder Camp (Ages 3 to 5 years old)
Kinder Camp provides an enjoyable learning experience for young campers as they discover more about the world around them. Each day may include songs, games, story time, arts and crafts, snack time, nap, and time to make friends. Swimming lessons are included in the camp activities and are given 4 days per week by YMCA-certified swim instructors. Each week will have a theme that will be incorporated into the daily activities of the week. All field trips will correspond to the weekly themes and special visitors will be incorporated throughout the camp sessions.
Youth Camp (Ages 6-12 years old)
Campers in this camp participate in a wide variety of age appropriate activities. With an emphasis on the development of our core values (focusing on Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility) each day may include swimming lessons, sports, arts & crafts, science & nature. Each week has a theme that will be incorporated into the daily activities. Traveling field trip will be incorporated based on the weekly themes. All activities are skill-based and age appropriate and emphasize fun, fair play, participation, respect for others, and cooperation.
Teen College (Ages 13-17 years old)
Teens enrolled in this program must be at least 13 years old and/or entering eighth grade (fall 08). Teens will explore opportunities for service learning, community service, SAT prep, career building workshops, college tours, and trips to exciting destinations. In addition, age appropriate programming will include swimming, sports, and creative arts. Please note, an application and interview are required to participate in this program. Upon completion of an application, the Camp Director will contact you to schedule an interview with you and your child.
New Specialty Camps for 2008
Sports Camp:
(ages 6-12) 9:00 AM -4:00 PM/10 weeks
Sports camp is designed to help players understand and learn a variety of sports and games. Camp will include drills, skills, and games. Players will learn team work and how to compete at a higher level. Campers will have time throughout the day for arts and crafts, fun activities and recreational swimming, and trips.
Mad Scientist Camp:
(ages 6-12) 9:00 AM-4:00 PM/10 weeks
Science Camp is for the curious camper with a huge interest in science! It is based on fun weekly Science projects and will allow campers to do many hands on make & take projects. Bi-weekly, campers will have an opportunity to showcase their work and show what they learned. Campers will have time throughout the day for arts and crafts, fun activities and recreational swimming, and trips.
Arts and Crafts Camp:
(ages 6-12) 9:00 AM-4:00 PM/10 weeks
Fun packed days with weekly camp themes, Y-arts and crafts camp will highlight the great work of the creative camper. Campers will use their talents within large and small groups to develop skill in drawing, painting, paper mache and nifty individual crafts.
Camp Outlook :
(ages 6-8) 9:00 AM-4:00 PM/10 weeks
Camp Outlook might be the perfect summer experience for the active child. Children will participate in physical fitness, camp instructional and recreational swimming, arts and crafts, and special programs. Children will spend a portion of their day mainstreamed with their age appropriate group in Youth Camp. See Youth Camp description for details of activities. Campers will build social, physical, and communication skills through specially designed programs like drama, therapeutic recreation, and hands-on science.
Camp Fantastic :
(9-12) 9:00 AM-4:00 PM/10 weeks
Camp Fantastic is the perfect camp for our older youth. Children will participate in life skills activities such as cooking, financial planning, responsible behavior seminars, and participate in team-building exercises. Children will spend a portion of their day mainstreamed with their age appropriate group in Youth Camp. See Youth Camp description for details of activities.
SPLASH
All campers will participate in swimming during the camp day. Children will be tested and assigned to groups based on ability and age. Campers will be given 30-minute lessons and allowed to participate in recreational swim after their lesson. Classes are taught by certified YMCA swim instructors.
