Teen and Adult Aquatic Fitness Classes
Free to all Full-privilege Members

 
Exerswim
 
Exerswim is an hour –long class that offers an intense cardiovascular workout that uses the water’s natural qualities, buoyancy and resistance to strengthen and tone your body. The class takes place in both the deep and shallow water.
 

 

Deep Water Fitness
 
Deep Water Fitness will increase your circulation and flexibility while building endurance in a NON-IMPACT environment. This is a 45 minute exercise class. Proper floatation equipment is provided. so non-swimmers are welcome.
 
 
Aquacize
 
Aquacise is a 45 minute moderately intense workout designed to increase flexibility and trim your body. Classes take place in shallow water and incorporate resistance training using special equipment.
 
  
 
Twinges and Hinges
 
This half-hour program is designed to improve your health by enhancing motor skills and range of motion. Designed especially for people with Arthritis.
 
 
 
Deep Water Aerobics
 
This is a 55 minute, NON-IMPACT high intensity cardiovascular work-out performed exclusively in Deep Water. Using floatation devices on your ankles, hand barbells are supplied to challenge the participant and increase resistance.
 
            
 
Aqua Jog
 
Aqua Jog is a one-hour high intensity, non-impact, fitness class that takes place in deep water. It combines aerobic exercise with abdominal work.
 
 
 

Swim Lessons

 


Parent Child Classes

 

Full Facility $46, Program Members $92

 

Shrimp (6-8 months) /Kippers (9-12 months) /Inia (13-18 months)

No previous water experience needed. Children explore the water through songs and games. A trusted adult participates with the child.
 
 
 
Perch (19 months-3 years)
 
In this class children will swim with a trusted adult and gain confidence in the pool. Beginning swimming and water safety skills are introduced.

 

Perch Plus (2-4 years)

This class is for the 2-3 year old child that is comfortable in the swimming pool but not yet ready for preschool swim lessons or the 4 year old who is not ready to swim without a parent. Children will swim with both parent and instructor to gain further confidence. 

 

Preschool Age Swim Classes (Ages 3-5 years)

Pike (Beginner)

This is your child’s first swimming experience without a parent or guardian. This class will focus on water adjustment, kicking, blowing bubbles and paddling with assistance. Children will swim with and without floatation.

 

 Eels

Children entering an Eel class should be comfortable paddling on their front, back and side 1 width of the pool with or without floatation. Stroke development, independent swimming and personal safety are emphasized.

 

Rays

Children entering a Ray class should have the ability to swim 1/2 length of the pool independently on both front and back.   Children should be comfortable in the deep end of the pool. Continued stroke development and endurance are emphasized.

 

Starfish

Children entering a Starfish class should have the ability to swim 1 length of the pool without assistance as well as tread water for 15 seconds. Introduction to rhythmic breathing and symmetrical paddle. This class will focus on stroke refinement and endurance.

 

Progressive Swim Lessons (Ages 6-12 years)

Polliwog

This class is for the beginner swimmer with no previous water experience necessary. This class will focus on water adjustment, front/back float and paddle. Proper use of Instructional floatation devices will be stressed.

 

 Guppy

Children entering a Guppy class should be comfortable swimming with their face in the water. Guppy is an advanced beginner class that will introduce rhythmic breathing and stroke development. 

 

Minnow 

Children entering a minnow level swim lesson should be able to swim 1 length of the pool on both front and back. In the minnow level, strokes are refined and endurance increased. Breaststroke and Elementary Backstroke introduced. 

 

Fish

Children entering fish level swim lessons should be able to swim 2 lengths of the pool front crawl and backstroke in good form. Breaststroke and elementary backstroke are refined and Butterfly is introduced. Endurance and stroke refinement are stressed.

 

Flying Fish

Children entering flying fish swim lessons should be able to swim 3 lengths of the pool front crawl, backstroke and elementary backstroke in good form. Continued development of butterfly, breaststroke, starts and flip turns. Stroke refinement and endurance reinforced. 

 

Shark/ Porpoise

Children entering this class should be able to swim four lengths of the pool front crawl and backstroke. This class will continue working on flip turns, stroke refinement and endurance. Competitive swim strokes such as individual medley will be practiced.

 

Main Line YMCA Preswim Team - Dolphins (Ages 6-14 years)

 

Try Main Line Y’s PreSwim Team for an exciting introduction to competitive swimming. This program develops swimmers’ strokes and improves them so that they can swim on a competitive swim team. The theory is that if the stroke is technically proficient, the swimmer will swim faster and more effectively.
 
WHO? 6-14 year olds at Fish level and up, or any swimmers who are able to correctly swim freestyle (front crawl), breaststroke, and backstroke (back crawl).
 
WHAT? Children will be coached on these strokes plus learn butterfly. They will also be taught competitive starts, turns, and finishes.
 
WHEN & WHERE? Practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:15 - 6:15 PM at the MLY. The first 15 minutes will be dry land exercises and information; then into the pool.
 
This is a 2 day/week activity.
 
All swimmers must wear goggles. Girls and boys with long hair must wear a bathing cap. Girls must wear a one-piece swimsuit. For more information, please call the Aquatic Office, ext. 1409.

It is never too late to learn to swim or improve your current swimming abilities. Even though this is a group lesson, each swimmer gets individuals attention based on their specific needs.

Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons – 3 years and up
It is always a good tome to learn to swim and sometimes people learn better in an individual setting. If you are interested in scheduling private or semi-private swim lessons (for semi-privates, you must provide the additional child), please call Courtney Izett, ext. 1409. 
 
Five ½ hr. privates:

Pool Parties -
Make a big splash for your next birthday or special occasion!  Enjoy an hour in the pool, followed by approximately 1 hour in the party room.  Call Courtney at 610-649-0700 ext. 1409 for questions and information.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification

This course is for mature A.R.C. Lifeguards to certify and become A.R.C. Lifeguard Instructors.  After successful completion of this course, you will be able to teach the A.R.C. Lifeguard course, CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, Oxygen application, and First Aid.  Registration is through the American Red Cross at 1-800-42-CROSS.

NEW Adaptive Aquatics
 

Fall I Only
Adaptive aquatics is a program for youth and teens that have a physical or mental challenge.  Our aquatic environment is the perfect place to experience many social, emotional, and physical benefits.  We will be providing a fun and safe environment for participants to meet new friends and learn basic water safety and swimming skills.  Parents/Guardians are asked to participate to enhance the participant's experience.  Please note that the YMCA does not have a lift into the pool, so participants should be able to get themselves into the pool with the help of their parent/guardian.
