LITs receive training in areas such as: Working with Children, Leadership & Communication Skills, Camp Procedures & Policies, Safety, Conflict Resolution, Developing and Leading activities, and more. LITs have the opportunity to spend time with camp groups, in addition to shadowing key camp staff in program areas. LITs spend a portion of their session with Camp Outburst for recreation and fun in addition to their responsibilities. Teens interested in being a part of the LIT program must complete an application packet, which involves submitting two letters of reference. Applicants must also schedule an interview with Lauri Warfield, Camp Director, prior to acceptance to the LIT program. The purpose of the interview is to determine whether working with children in a day camp setting is right for the candidate. CIT Program (Counselors in Training) Grades: 11th-12th (Ages 16-18)
Our CIT Program is the next step in the progression from camper to camp counselor. As a CIT, teens will go through a very similar training program to that of our senior camp counselors. CITs will be trained on Child Abuse, Sexual Harassment, First Aid, CPR, and more as well as being part of a group every day of their time here. Teens in this program will have to be responsible for getting to work on time, assisting with the supervision of children, and being involved in the daily activities of the camp. This is a true learning experience for the teens in the CIT Program; one that will benefit them for years to come. CITs are paid employees of the Rocky Run YMCA and will thus be treated as such. They will have to schedule an interview with Lauri Warfield, Camp Director, prior to acceptance into the program. CIT applications will be available at the Rocky Run YMCA as of February 5, 2008.
The CIT Program is a 4-week commitment. Accepted CITs can choose to work during either weeks 2-5 or weeks 6-9. Those wishing to work both sessions must successfully complete weeks 2-5 and be invited back, due to their performance, for weeks 6-9.
