The YMCA of Philadelphia & Vicinity
Strong Kids Campaign: Building Future Leaders

Every child deserves a chance to succeed and at the YMCA we focus on engaging kids in programs that help them to grow into strong adults. Early childhood education, before and after school care, Y Achievers, The Saturday Fun Club, and Leaders Clubs help children develop a lifetime love of learning and instill the YMCA character values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Caring. Financial limitations prevent children from engaging in YMCA programs. Each year volunteers raise dollars to ensure that every child is afforded the opportunity to reach his or her full potential, regardless of financial circumstances.

Your Dollars At Work

Every year the YMCA of Philadelphia & Vicinity is able to provide more than $1.5 million to serve children and families in need of financial assistance. Last year, the Northeast Family YMCA distributed $200,000 in financial assistance to 359 needy families by:

  • Enabling 82 children and youth an opportunity to participate in summer day camp and after school programs.
  • Educating 10 young children ages 0-5 in licensed childcare programs.
  • Keeping 191 children active and engaged in youth sports, aquatics, and the Health Intervention Program (HIP Kids).

“I am a single parent of a wonderful 12-year-old girl. When I moved into the area 3 years ago it was a big struggle for us to make ends meet.  I am very proud of one of decision to keep my bond and relationship with my child a top priority, but it was a hard decision to keep until I found the Northeast YMCA.

The Northeast YMCA has helped me in keeping my personal goal by having the scholarship/financial aid programs available for families like mine. Since joining the YMCA 3 years ago, my daughter has really shown her talents and become a very productive, substantial proud girl.  With the YMCA staff encouragement she has joined all the sports teams that are available and was taught numerous skills along with teamwork, cooperation, patients with others, respect and faith in herself and in her beliefs.

The YMCA is our extended family, and that is only due to the Scholarships/Financial aid that was available, I truly hope that it will continue for a long time to come.”
