Basketball was invented at the Y, so we know a thing or two about the game. Immerse your kids in the sport of basketball through leagues and instructional programs for all ages at the Y.
Your child will develop foundational skills, learn teamwork, and make friends while having a blast playing basketball.
Basketball Programs
Instructional Classes
Classes implement curriculum designed by the Jr. NBA to share the game of basketball through teaching skills, character development and wellness in a fun and positive environment. The curriculum features age-appropriate levels that provide proper instruction to youth at every stage of development. Classes focus on having fun, being active and honing fundamental dribbling, passing, and shooting skills. Our instructors are trained through the MOJO Sports platform from NBA/WNBA players, legends, coaches, strength and conditioning personnel in our library of more than 250 instructional videos.
Leagues
The Greater Philadelphia YMCA offers basketball leagues for children ages 3-17 at various branches. Leagues are a fantastic way to learn the basic fundamentals of basketball while applying those skills in gameplay. Teamwork and sportsmanship are at the core of these leagues. Our instructors and volunteer coaches are provided curriculum & training resources and will teach skills in practice and apply them in games. Leagues run for 8 weeks and include a team jersey. All other equipment necessary will be provided by the YMCA.
