Lauren Shipman, a familiar and friendly face in Kid Zone, has just published her first book: Wheeling Through Life: Possibilities Through Determination – now available on Amazon.

Lauren, who lives with cerebral palsy, brings warmth, positivity, and resilience to everything she does. Before joining Kid Zone, she made a lasting impact in our Child Care and Camp programs, where her dedication to uplifting children truly shined.

Her book is a powerful story of perseverance, community, and chasing dreams—a message that beautifully reflects our Y values. With her background in childcare, degree from Neumann University, and passion for motivating others, Lauren is an inspiring role model for staff and members alike.

From her brother, Bill Shipman:

“Lauren is a courageous, kind, smart, and tenacious person who worked extremely hard to share her story. This book is for anyone who's ever struggled, felt different, or been told they couldn’t. I couldn’t be prouder of my sister.”

About the Author:

Lauren grew up with cerebral palsy and uses a power wheelchair to navigate life. Encouraged by her supportive family to step outside her comfort zone, she developed a can-do attitude and a "just do it" motto. She holds a BA from Neumann University with a minor in psychology and continues to pursue her dream of working in early childhood education. Lauren enjoys adaptive sports, giving motivational talks, and spending time with her family in West Chester, PA.
