Eleven-year-old Madison Walker had a dream. “I’ve wanted a placard in the (Phoenixville YMCA) lobby since I first saw them.”

A regular at the Y literally since birth, “Madi” feels very much at home there. “We love the Y. We’re here all the time”, her mom, Christine says.

Madi became fascinated with the triangles on the donor wall in our lobby. Which gave her Mom an idea as Christmas approached. Working with branch staff, The Walkers made a donation to the Y, and with it came 2 spaces on the wall – one for the family, and one custom tailored to the family’s biggest fan of the Y. Donations to the Y support our financial assistance program to ensure no individual, child, family, or senior is turned away based on an inability to pay; as well as community outreach programs for healthier living for all.

“I think it’s the best gift idea I ever had”, Christine said at the unveiling. Sticking a triangle, in her own handwriting, to the wall moved Madi to tears. “It seemed like the most meaningful gift to give her. It’s something that won’t be broken and forgotten. And it’s here forever. We also like to give to the Y; we get so much out of it.”

Madi’s reaction to seeing the placard? “I can’t.”

Thanks to the Walkers for their support, and for making us part of their special family memory.
