PRESS: West Philadelphia YMCA and Barbers Who Care Help Kids “Shape Up” for Back to School

West Philadelphia, PA — August 11, 2026 — The West Philadelphia YMCA (located at 5120 Chestnut Street) is inviting local families to join them Sunday, August 23th from 10am to 3pm for their annual Back to School event. The event features free school supplies, an afternoon of fun, free health screenings via an on-site mobile unit, and free haircuts courtesy of Barbers Who Care, a local group committed to raising the self-esteem of youth through grooming.

Roughly 30 volunteer barbers from Barbers Who Care will be on-hand throughout the day, and a mobile health unit will offer free health screenings for families, making sure kids head back to the classroom looking and feeling their best.

UnitedHealthcare will also be on hand distributing book bags and much-needed school supplies.
