When Tony and Jacqueline moved to Havertown in 2022, they joined the Haverford Area YMCA right away. Not long after, they discovered the Delco Senior Games, and started using the Y's upstairs track and weight room, particularly to train for the games.
Tony competes across nearly every event the Games offer, including:
- 100, 200, and 400 meter runs
- 4x100 relay
- Long jump
- 400 and 800 meter power walks
- Softball and football throws
Jacqueline has also competed in the Games, consistently competing in the 400 and 800 meter power walks and the softball throw. In 2026, she went even further, stepping up to run a leg of the 4x100 relay for the first time.
"We hope to continue to enjoy good health, and to keep on competing for years, decades, and we know the Y will be one of the main reasons why."
Their competitive spirit extends beyond the Delco Senior Games. Both Tony and Jacqueline have competed in Seniors and Masters track events across Pennsylvania, Delaware, and other areas. In 2023, Tony ran the 200 meter at the National Senior Games in Pittsburgh, sprinting through his training on the Y's upstairs track during its quieter hours.
Along the way, the Y has supported them off the track as well. Both have turned to Kinetic Physical Therapy, located inside the Y, to work through injuries and stay in competition shape. After a hard workout, they'll be the first to admit their favorite spot at the Y might just be the hot tub.
Now in their early 70s, Tony and Jacqueline aren't slowing down. They're planning to keep training, keep competing, and keep calling the Haverford Area YMCA home for the journey.
