Become part of our brand new swim team at the Y to improve your skills, build confidence, and compete against other Y swimmers! Our new swim team will take place at our Christian Street and West Philadelphia YMCA branches.
The swim team is open to members and non-members ages 6 - 14. Everyone must be evaluated prior to joining the team to be placed in the correct level.
Open Teams:
Swimmers must be able to complete one length of the pool in each, freestyle and backstroke. Focus of this group is to introduce the four main competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) with an emphasis on proper technique, body position and stroke mechanics. We will focus on confidence, mastering basic strokes and enhancing water safety while fostering a positive and supportive environment for personal growth in swimming
Swimmers must be able to complete 4 continuous lengths of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers should be able to complete one length of legal breaststroke and butterfly. An intermediate level swimmer will have mastered all the basics of all 4 strokes and will focus on refining stroke efficiency, maintaining proper body position and improving the coordination of arms, legs and breathing for each stroke. We will focus on building endurance, starts, turns, speed and technique integration and tactical awareness.
Swimmers must be able to swim all 4 competitive strokes legally. Swimmers in this group should have a solid foundation in swimming and are ready to focus on more advanced skills and increased training intensity. At this level swimmers have mastered all 4 competitive strokes and turns and are working on refining technique and improving speed. We will focus on advanced strokes technique, breathing and timing, building stamina and speed work.
Team fees:
A deposit of $50 is required at the time of registration. This includes a swimming cap and t-shirt.
- 2 hours per week = $450
- 3 hours per week = $600
Fees are split evenly over four payments and charged in October, November, December, and January.
Financial assistance is available.
Evaluations:
Everyone must be evaluated prior to joining the team to be placed in the correct level. Evaluations are free.
